Between dust of sand and salt water on the Dutch coast, Ignez grew up among shifting dunes, sea wind and the rhythm of the waves. He fled the conservative world by sketching his own reality from these elements of nature. They became inextricably linked with his sense of self, and devoting his life to electronic music felt like the natural next step. That connection still flows through his music today, giving his techno a tight yet indefinable sound, a current that runs beneath everything he makes.
His education began early. Inspired by nights at club Trouw in Amsterdam, he landed a residency at a club in his hometown at a young age, and those formative years still shape how he plays. His sets are stripped-back, dark but warm. Emotive and sensual, they pull the room into a trance where ethereal melodies take over and the dance floor drifts toward a collective, oceanic feeling. His selections run deep: forgotten records from decades past, rare finds from the present, all of it reshaped into something that belongs only to him. In the world's great clubs and on festival stages far from home, he leads listeners further into his world.
Through his label Somov Records, Ignez built a platform for his own vision and carved out a distinct space within the contemporary techno landscape. Alongside carefully curated physical releases, Somov gathers people in venues around the world, where his view on techno takes shape. After many solo EPs on his own imprint, Ignez gave the sea its full-length form with his debut album Tides, released on Token. His collaboration with Rødhåd began with two EPs, grew through many b2bs and a live set, and is far from finished.
Still somewhere between sand and salt water.
